Welcome
Root + Return is a practice of coming home to yourself.

This work is grounded in trauma-informed, embodied yoga — which means we connect with our body, we honor choice, and we practice in ways that heal the nervous system.
What is trauma-informed yoga?
Trauma causes dissociation and detachment.
Yoga brings us back to our bodies and our Self.

According to the World Health Organization, around 70% of people globally will experience a potentially traumatic event during their lifetime.

The National Center for PTSD puts the statistic at 100% — most people experience a traumatic event at some point in their life.

The word "trauma" is used for many different types of experiences that are stressful. Trauma can range from shocking and dangerous events that you see or that happens to you, to little "t" trauma experienced through daily life stressors, grief, loss, or burnout.
Trauma affects the body and the mind, and yoga offers a way to heal from trauma. It opens you up to feeling every aspect of your body's sensations. Its a gentle, safe way for people to befriend their bodies, where the residual energy of past trauma is stored.

Root + Return believes we all have the innate wisdom to heal. This means:

You are always given choices
You are encouraged to listen to your body
There is no pressure to perform
Rest is always welcome
You are the authority on your own body
The goal is not to “do yoga right,” but to feel safe and present in your body
We use breath, movement, rest, and awareness to help the body learn that it is safe to be here.
